SILENCE KIT

the best what happened in Russian indie rock in the last decade

SILENCE KIT (Moscow) revolutionized Russian indie rock and captured critical attention by intertwining elements of a variety music genres from the past two decades including kraut-rock, noise-rock, avant-garde, classical minimalism, psychedelic, ambient and space music.

Formed in Moscow in 2002, the group began when guitarist Boris Belov, drummer Grigory Aleksanyan, and guitarist/vocalist Fyodor Dmitriev the core members of indie-pop formation DAIRY HIGH started experimenting with the composition, sound textures, and production techniques to create an original blend of their own. Next aboard were keyboardist Andrei Gavrilov, and bassist Sergei Bogatov. The five-piece immediately went on to a studio to implement new ideas into the recording practice. Soon the material was rehearsed and recorded, they made stage-debut, and after a series of successful club-gigs became touted as a local phenomenon in moody experimental-rock circles.

The interest in the group among alternative music fans continued to grow steadily. However, by the time recording began in 2003 for their second album, drummer and keyboardist had gone. Current LUMENY drummer Sergei Ledovsky, and classically trained violoncellist Yaroslav Kovalev of Alexei Aigi's chamber-rock ensemble 4:33 joined the lineup. It was more than adequate replacements. New experience and constant thirst for innovations served as a signpost to the group's new direction with a focus on intensive collective interaction and growing instrumental inventiveness.

MEDIA:

“Silence Kit is probably the best what happened to Russian indie music in the last decade”.
Time Out, Moscow

“....after some line-up changes they have returned with a brand new album (released September, 1, 2007), which has mounted them on Russian underground Everest. If Canada has GY!BE and Iceland has SIGUR ROS as Post-Rock symbols, look for SILENCE KIT in Russia. Extremely recommended! “

"Silence Kit is the key to a world of mystery, passion, intrigue and musical muscle all this Moscow band's very own. Silence Kit must not remain an unknown quantity for long”. " by Tim Peacock of WHISHPERING & HOLLERIN (UK) (May 2003).

"Once you get past the superfluous 5 minute long drone which opens the album, you discover a great band whose musical range spreads from noise-pop to post-rock endowed with a great propensity to creating appealing melodies which have something cold and restrained to them....
Silence Kit is encrusted with an overall good sense of melody. It is definitely one of the best self-released material we have received so far." by Seb Wood of WANADOO (France) (July 2003).

“Muscovites SILENCE KIT don't do things by halves. Their eponymous debut was one of the most fascinating albums we reviewed during 2003 and this new three-tracker is once the again the sound of a band who make a mockery of terms like 'the sky's the limit' in terms of ambition.....
Silence Kit, then, will not satisfy those who are after quick pop fixes. Theirs is not a disposable world in the way we are conditioned today and their grasp of space, time and wonder is something to behold in the calculating 21st Century. Whether they will 'make it' outside their native land is not really important, though it would be nice to think someone over here would have the guts to release their remarkable music on a wider scale.
WHISHPERING & HOLLERIN (UK)

“From Russia, a fabulous album that would have the UK rock press sailvating if it were a British product. Silence Kit's eponymous 2002 debut is a record that deserves a wide audience. With a second album already out, international recognition seems long overdue.
